The FoWRSaP consortium recently held its Mid-Term Presentation, bringing together project partners, PRIMA representatives and representatives from national funding bodies for a productive review of the project’s progress.
FoWRSaP, “Agro Food Waste Recovery: new processing technologies for food Safety and Packaging,” is a PRIMA project focused on the valorisation of agri-food waste through innovative and sustainable processing technologies. The project aims to contribute to safer food systems, improved shelf life of perishable products and the development of bio-based packaging solutions. The project’s approach includes the use of biopolymers such as chitosan, polylactic acid and exopolysaccharides, as well as natural bioactive compounds derived from agri-food by-products.
During the meeting, the consortium presented the progress achieved across the different work packages and discussed the next stages of implementation. The session provided an important opportunity for coordination, feedback and exchange among partners, evaluators and funding representatives.
The AgrofoodRnD team from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki is responsible for Work Package 2, which focuses on the classification of agri-food waste and the extraction, characterization and evaluation of natural target compounds. Within this work package, emphasis is placed on the recovery of valuable compounds from Mediterranean agri-food by-products using green extraction approaches.
The Mid-Term Presentation marked an important milestone for FoWRSaP, highlighting the collaborative effort of the consortium and the project’s contribution to circular economy, sustainable packaging and food safety innovation in the Mediterranean region.
